My JP1 Remote Mini How-to

JP1

I really didn't like the remote that came with the Hauppauge cards, so I created my own “upgrade code” for my One For All remote (URC-8011). It in essence allows me to add a “factory code” to any JP1able remote to control my equipment with any button of my choosing. If you are familiar with JP1 and IR.exe, here isRemoteMaster file.

I created a JP1 cable by:

  1. Using an old IDE cable and creating a 6 pin jp1 cable following these directions.
  2. Then I followed these directions for the actual interface.

The Hauppauge IR receiver appears to be hardware limited to receive only RC-5 type codes, so I used their irremote.ini file to find the OBCs for the new Hauppauge 45 button remote. They are (copied from the .ini file):

I then downloaded the java program RemoteMaster from http://controlremote.sourceforge.net/ . I knew from the ini that the device code was 30, then used the OBC listed above in the remote master program, mapped the keys to where I wanted, which produced this upgrade code.

I then used the ir.exe program to “upload” my new upgrade code to my remote using my JP1 cable. That's it! I now can control MythTV using any JP1 capable remote, with this lircd.conf file and this lircrc.
